Everything connected …
We’ve only been doing this a short time and we’ve never properly run our own business before, in fact writing the word business still gives me a slight unease. I have grown in a world where business is ‘bullish’, ’ruthless’, it’s ‘cut throat’, ‘don’t mix business with pleasure’, you know the rest. The word business and it’s associations have created an acceptance that you can do what you want under the umbrella of business and leave your morals at the door. This is a massive sweeping statement I know but unfortunately the systems of ‘making money money money’ do seemingly still have ties to these ways of thinking. The most exciting thing for us starting out with growtogether. has been nothing as grand as to challenge this way of thinking but at least to try and ignore it as best we can, we’re trying our best not to just push our costs down and our profits up. We’re inspired by new and old business’ out there now challenging the mould. We are also not hiding behind the fact that we can now call ourselves a business. We are the same people, with the same morals.
As people or business people we have struggled like millions of others this week to come to terms with what is happening in Afghanistan and the lives being torn apart. Like millions of others we feel helpless. We cannot comprehend the idea of not being able to keep our child safe.
Inspired by our sister who is Zennorwild and who doesn’t hide her morals behind ‘business’ or ‘what can we do?’ we will be donating the profits from all boxes sold at Tuesday’s Holan gatherers and growers event in St Ives. In the face of the Trillions (this is true by the way) of dollars spent on this conflict over the last 20 years we know our meagre profits will do very little if anything at all but we feel it’s about doing something, being responsible and accepting our connectedness. It really is only geography that separates us from them.
