Way more than fifty shades of grey…

Our hero’s probably won’t end up on ‘Love Island’ or ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ (fingers very much crossed) and they often get overlooked in mainstream media etc but they’re making head way …

A big one for us is Tim Spector, he’s making serious strides to understand and share how what we eat affects us. A commonality he shares with some of our other peers, people like Patrick Holden of the Sustainable Food Trust and a more recent find for us Kimberley Wilson - Psychologist and nutritionist, is that they don’t look at issues in isolation. It’s not the governemnt or marketing advice that we’ve had to become so accustomed to (especially surrounding nutrition and health), it’s not simply this is good and this is bad. There is a uniqueness to all issues and all individuals and there is a cost to all choices made when deciding day to day how you’re going to fuel your body and mind. Black and white does not exist, just an almost infinitive amount of shades of grey.

They’re still telling people to eat low-fat foods and avoid saturated fats without talking about the quality of the food. They’re still telling people to avoid skipping meals when the evidence from randomised control trials suggests there can be benefits to doing this. They say that fruit juice can be one of your five-a-day, which suggests that there’s no difference between a glass of Tropicana and an orange – which is nonsense! And they’re not recommending whole foods over ultra-processed foods, which make you overeat and upset your gut microbiome. No nutrition expert would give that advice.” - Tim Spector
