“Food isn’t just nutrition, it’s people and places, it’s communities and cultures.”

We love getting out, bumping down hidden lanes and picking up produce from our local growers. We also love taking a quick minute, or as long as their workload allows, for a chat. It’s really important for us to know what’s going on their side, things are unsurprisingly very difficult this very hot and very dry summer, it certainly doesn’t show in the produce though. These bunch are doing it all through natural means as well, just attention, knowledge and a lot of hard work, thanks.

- Onions and Cucumbers from Slighthill.

- Chantenay Carrots, Cylindra Beetroots, Oak Lettuce heads from @trenowfields

- Mixed Cherry Tomatoes from @trevelyanfarmorganics (If there was a winner…)

And more to pick up from @nancealverne bright and breezy in the morning, can’t get fresher than that.

We’re very proud that out of 13 varieties of veg in last weeks box 9 came from Cornwall. In fact a lot of it was from very close by indeed. We had organic lettuce from Trenow nr Perranuthnoe, Yellow Courgettes from Trevelyan Organics at Rosudgeon, Chives and Garlic from Nancelverne Penzance and Kale, onions and Cucumbers from Slighthill Organics in Bone Valley (n.b genuinely the best cucumber we’ve eaten). Oh and a special mention for the very lovely strawberries from Phil in St Hilary.

Not only is it great to be eating such incredible, local produce but it’s also absolutely lovely to be able to pick it up directly from (and talk to) the people that have put their passion and energy into it, makes it a different thing and we think we need to somehow get some of that back.

Food isn’t just nutrition, it’s people and places, it’s communities and cultures.
